The house music pioneer Mark Bell (LFO, Bjork, Depeche Mode) passed away earlier this month and I just came across yet another example of his amazing work that I had to share. It’s unbelievable that this track came out in 1995. It still sounds fantastic today. Check it out below and grab a copy of your own here.
Month: October 2014
Sia – Chandelier (Sara Bareilles Live Cover)
My friend Zia recommended I take a listen to the live cover of Sia’s “Chandelier” by Sara Bareilles. I’ve always been a fan of her music, but she knocks this one clear out of the park. Despite listening to her for so long, for some reason I never really knew Sara Bareilles had such a fantastic voice. Chills watching this one, seriously.
Boogee Brotherz – Rule My World (Mike Newman Private Re-work)
Time to get back to your funky house roots. The classics! Simple and beautiful, it’s new but doesn’t seem like it. I love this one. Grab it here.
David Moleon – San Salvador
It took me awhile to finally post this one. I wasn’t sure if it was appropriate for the site, but in the end, it’s music, and it does make me smile every time I watch the video. The song eventually sticks in your head too, although it isn’t really my favorite genre. Anyways, the track accompanying the video is “San Salvador” by David Moleon, and you can grab it without the funny dancing here. Enjoy!
Tom Petty – Free Fallin’ (John Mayer Live Cover)
I absolutely loved this track when I first heard it a few years back. An amazing re-working of a classic from Tom Petty. Regardless of how you felt about the original, I bet you’ll enjoy this version. Grab a copy for yourself here.
Flight Facilities – Two Bodies feat. Emma Louise (HNNY Remix)
I’m amazed at how HNNY was able to take an already melancholy and chill electronica track and re-work it to have the same genre and feel of the original but an altogether different (and better) sound at the same time. It’s subtle and super crafty work, my hat is off. Check it out here.
Penguin Prison – Calling Out
A really cool new track from NYC based Penguin Prison (Chris Glover). Known mostly for his remixes, I think he’s got some serious credentials in the original track department as well. I guess I’d describe the music as indie-dance or maybe electro-pop. Anyway that you want to describe it, listen more with your own copy here.
Skipworth & Turner – Thinking About Your Love
If you’ve seen the movie “Begin Again” from the writer/director of “Once,” you’ll recognize this track as the song that is impossible to not dance to. I can’t agree more, I dare you to try and be still listening to this gem. Grab it here.
Lucy Spraggan – Lighthouse
Good solid UK pop for ya. A superbly catchy song from a year ago, but if you haven’t heard it before, you’re welcome. Enjoy! Oh yeah, it’s free here.
Daughter – Candles
I saw this band play live in Australia before I had ever heard of them and directly after the show I went home and downloaded their entire first album. They have a really subtle and enticing sound. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but they remind me of Mumford and Sons, not with the folksy twang, but with the slow build throughout the entire song. Check it out, and make sure to give it proper attention as the song pulls you in deeper the longer you listen. Grab it here.
